History

Sambatigers have been providing drumming based workshops and projects in schools, businesses and community centres since 2003. Sambatigers' main teacher, Dave Mitchell, has a degree in Popular Music from Leeds University, has studied and performed world music styles in Australia, South Africa and Trinidad and Tobago as well as various countries in Europe and around the UK. Throughout the 1990s Dave toured with Theatre in Education companies providing performance based workshops in schools. Dave taught and performed in Geraldine Conner's world-music epic theatre production Carnival Messiah between 1997 and 2008 in many highly acclaimed venues including The Yorkshire Playhouse, The Commonwealth Institute and The Royal Albert Hall. Dave taught and lead amatuer samba bands in Yorkshire between 2005 and 2014 including Sambatigers, Loud Minority and Brasiloca and trained and performed with Brazil's top class pro samba band Mono Bloco in 2009/10. More recently Dave, along with 'Louder Than Life' taught and led a 700-piece samba band for the Leeds art organisation Artforms. The project which included 25 Leeds primary schools was a celebration of music and sports and a tribute to the up coming 2016 Olympic games in Rio, Brazil. As well as drumming for education, Dave sings in his rock'n'roll band Blue-Note Mitch & The Burning Aces:
